Walter Mauney, a native of
Blairsville, GA says that music has always been a part of his life. Some of his earliest memories are of his dad singing “The Wreck of the Old ’97” and “Roving Gambler” to him. He also gets a fair bit of musical influence from his mom as she has frequently served as church pianist through out her life. Predictably, Walter’s musical beginnings were in piano lessons as a youngster, which he pursued for 4 years. When he was 13 he decided a change of pace was in order and began guitar and banjo lessons. This new instrument led him to his first band membership his High School FFA band. During that time, his band won the State championship for 2 consecutive years. Naturally, with the end of high school, Walter slowed down on his musical endeavors. But in his early twenties, he discovered the wonders and joy of playing the dobro. He has been playing ever since, but he has really become serious about his music in the last 6 years. Walter lives with his wife, Becky, |
